How to get from Cancun to Bacalar?
You have 2 options:

By car: rent one in Avis / Hertz / Alamo / National.

By bus: ADO company (www.ado.com.mx) has comfortable and clean buses which arrive on time. There is a direct bus to Bacalar from Cancun. One-way ticket costs approx. 450 pesos. If it doesn't fit your schedule you can take a bus to Playa del Carmen or Tulum and change it to other bus with destination to Bacalar.
How to get to Bacalar from Mexico City?
Take a flight from Mexico City to Chetumal with Interjet or Volaris Airline. There are three flights daily. To get from the airport to Villa Katalox you can take a private taxi (500 pesos) or shared taxi (150 pesos per person). As well you have option to rent a car on the airport (aprox. 700 pesos per day).
How to move & transport in Bacalar?
Our Villa is located 3 km. from the center of Bacalar - 8 min. drive or 30 min. walking. If you arrive by car you can park in the premises of the property. If you don't have a car you can always call a taxi that will take you to the center of Bacalar and to the airport. Other option is to explore the village by a rented bike.
How far in advance should I book a room?
If you plan to stay at Villa Katalox during high season, please make a reservation at least one month before your arrival.
The so-called high season runs from June to August and from December to March.
What attractions are in Bacalar?

Sailboat or catamaran tour, kayaks, standing paddle and simply swimming in the clear, sweet water of the Lagoon - which is the main attraction of Bacalar.

Blue Cenote (Cenote Azul) - impressive experience to see and feel a depth of 90 meters. After the bath you can enjoy a regional dish served in the restaurant there.

The Fort of San Felipe - was built in XVIII century. It has a small museum about the history of Bacalar and the region. You can see lagoon panorama from there and watch the sunset.

Many restaurants & food trucks - where you can enjoy delicious regional dishes, homemade delights, latin fusion and Caribbean cuisine.
What to see near the village?

Mahahual - located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, approx. 1 hour by car from Bacalar. It is a lovely seaside town with a sandy beaches. If you are an amateur of diving you can visit Banco Chinchorro, a coral atoll - the 2nd largest reef barrier in the world!

Chacchoben - Mayan ruins approx. 40 km. from Bacalar. It is a very well-maintained facility with large temples and beautiful gardens.

Kohunlich - 66 km away, a Mayan city built around 600 A.D.

Dzibanché - 80 km away, a major city in the Maya area in the Classic period (300 - 900 A.D.). Those two archeological sites are great ceremonial centers.
Where can I change & withdraw money in Bacalar?
In the center of Bacalar there is one bank Azteca with the cantor, which exchange USD, EUR and CND. To withdraw money you can use three ATMs next to the main park and the other in the OXXO shop next to the highway.
